Stink Bug Trap Supplies: What You Need to Buy

This is the full shopping list for our stink bug trap. Three things are required; the rest are optional extras we use around the property. If you only want one click, use the full supply lists at the bottom.

Required

Rice paper lamp

The light source and a big, textured surface for stink bugs to land on.

Ortho Home Defense Max

The bifenthrin insecticide we spray on the shade (and the pan) so bugs that land on it don't last.

Metal oven roasting pan

Slick walls keep fallen bugs from climbing back out, and everything ends up in one spot.

Optional

Bifenthrin concentrate (Talstar P)

What we use to treat the outside of the house. Same active ingredient as Home Defense Max.

Pump sprayer

For mixing and spraying the concentrate around doors and windows.

Pillowcase (for the frame version)

Fabric soaks up insecticide and gives bugs a huge surface to land on.

About the insecticide

Both Ortho Home Defense Max and Talstar P contain bifenthrin. It works when stink bugs touch it, so they don't have to eat it, and it attacks their nervous system. For the concentrate, we mix one ounce per gallon and spray around the house; it lasts a few weeks outside and also works on spiders, roaches and other insects. Always read and follow the label on whichever product you use.
